Heart Healthy Thanksgiving Menu Tips

Thanksgiving is a very special time of year that signals the start of the holiday season and the wonders of giving. Much of the traditional menu is actually heart healthy, and by just making a few small adjustments, you can treat your family to an even healthier and satisfying meal.

For the main course, choose skinless white turkey meat. Dark meat has more saturated fat than white, and the skin adds more unhealthy fats that you won't miss! Add flavor to your turkey and side dishes primarily with herbs and spices instead of butter and salt. Fresh rosemary, nutmeg, sage, thyme and olive oil are the perfect additions to limit sodium and saturated fat.

Cranberries are naturally full of antioxidants and making your own cranberry sauce allows you to control the sugar content. For the stuffing, add in fresh spinach for additional minerals. And don't shy away from nuts! A handful is a great source of heart-healthy fats.

Enjoy your feast and don't forget to pick up some heart-healthy chips for the weekend sporting events!

Partner Spotlight: Hope Heart Institute

We are very proud to announce our partnership with the Hope Heart Institute!

This incredible non-profit organization has a 50-year history of revolutionary medical advances and educational curriculums that make heart disease more treatable, beatable, and preventable. We applaud their stellar work and look forward to collaborating in local communities to raise awareness and funds for heart health research.

Corazonas at the Womens Conference

We recently met over 25,000 women at the California, Texas and Pennsylvania Women's Conferences - what an inspiration!

With heart disease as the #1 killer of women in the US, we were overjoyed to see the commitment everyone had for embracing a heart-healthy lifestyle. We were overwhelmed by the gratitude you showed us for making our heart-healthy snacks and have enjoyed the emails sent about taking our cholesterol challenge as soon as you arrived home.

As the theme of the conference, Women To Be Architects of Change, we applaud you for the outstanding work you do both at home and work, and truly appreciate you making Corazonas a part of your heart-healthy lifestyles.

Heartfelt thanks to Maria Shriver for bringing us all together!

Earth Healthy: Green Cleaning

Here at our Los Angeles headquarters, we are excited to have made the switch to green cleaning. Our supplies and methods utilize LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmenal Design) certified and Green Seal standards which means the cleanliness of our lungs and office air quality has been greatly improved...leading to healthier hearts!

To start greening your home, begin swapping out the items you use regularly like dish soap, laundry detergent, and air fresheners with all-natural alternatives available at most grocery or health food stores. Also, make sure to  clean your dryer lint screen before every cycle to save up to 5% on your electricty bill.  If everyone did this, it would equate to a potential energy savings of 350 million gallons of gasoline each year!
